Keeping An Organized Bankruptcy Folder
Part 2 | Sub Folders
In this blog series, we are discussing keeping an organized bankruptcy folder. In our last blog, we discussed the main folder. In this blog we will begin to discuss the following sub-folders in detail:
- Compliance
- Drafting Documents
- Pleadings
- Correspondence
- Notes
- Invoices
Order Of Folders
We number our subfolders so they stay uniformly in this order. Your law firm may or may not find this beneficial.
Compliance Folder
The Compliance Folder will have anything that we feel is important for us to comply with some of our own protocol and procedures. All client files must have the following in the Compliance folder:
- Client’s Identification (Drivers License or ID)
- Client’s Social Security Card
- Signed Retainer
- Intake Sheet
Paralegal’s Gather Documents
Not all cases have everything in the compliance folder when they are assigned to us. At Paralegal Power, it is not the legal secretary’s job to make sure all of the items are in the file.
The paralegal on the case is responsible for working with the client to collect all of the information we need. The legal secretary’s job as it pertains to the file is simply to file the documents in the correct folder.
